Requiem por un buen companero

What started as a teachers strike became a movement to topple the regional governor and is now blossoming into something much broader- calling for new forms of democracy and governance throughout the region and beyond. Attacks against the movement (to our knowledge a non-violent one) have been stepped up with paramilitaries targeting people and firing randomly on protestor positions and barricades.

A friend of ours from New York and fellow from different moments of encounter was there covering the events for Indymedia NYC and possibly some other outlets. This weekend different paramilitary groups have stepped up attacks on the Oaxacan rebellion. During one of these attacks William Bradley Roland was shot and killed. Another journalist was injured in the same attack and several others were killed throughout the day.
